Determining Your Status
Not sure if you’re a visiting student? No worries! At UMKC, we define visiting students in two ways:
- Degree-seeking students from another institution who would like to take a class or classes at UMKC and transfer the credits back to their home institutions
- Members of the community who are interested in taking a class or classes at UMKC
Before Applying
Prior to enrolling at UMKC, you will want to contact your program or academic area of interest to learn about their specific requirements. Advising contact information for each UMKC school and college can be found here.
The following programs do not admit visiting/community students:
- Dentistry
- Pharmacy
- Medicine - M.D.
- Medicine - B.A./M.D.
Application Process
- To become a visiting student at UMKC, you will submit an application as a non-degree seeking student, even if you are in a degree program at another university.
- There is a $15, non-refundable application fee.
- Transcripts are not required for visiting students. Please disregard the transcript request when submitting your application.
- Once your application is submitted, you will typically receive an admissions decision within 48-72 hours.
Enrolling at UMKC
- If you’ve been accepted as a visiting student, you will receive an e-mail with additional information about logging into Pathway, UMKC’s system for enrolling in classes, paying bills and more.
- Some courses require proof of a successfully completed pre-requisite course. If you attempt to enroll in one of these courses, you will need to provide a copy of your transcript to your academic advisor.
- Although you won’t receive financial aid from UMKC as a visiting student, you will have access to academic advising and other campus services.
